superhero of shower thoughts
ADHD is a superpower. don't believe me?
have you ever seen a non-ADHD person start ten different projects at once (all non-overlapping in their domains) and fail to finish every single one of them successfully? that's them procrastinating!
the first time i suspected dogs were in on the whole ADHD thing too, i sensed it from the way they never want to stop and wait for life to happen to them. they are too busy "participating" — chasing the shiny new thing — to let life catch up with them. by the time life does, they're already asleep. too many ambitions, too little time! for reasons unknown, i found it pretty comforting. they would have become my spirit animal but ps1 hagrid came along, and the dogs had found their replacement.
have you ever found yourself dissatisfied of life and paused because "the chosen one" complex kicked in and the present action became secondary because a thought had formed: "hmm, why didn't someone else do it? this looks like a good idea. maybe i should!" it is the middle of the midnight and you're explaining your "brand new," "original" idea to your favourite ideation partner: your notebook — because a human person would have flagged you as a weirdo who has transcended spacetime and is somehow superior to them puny mortals and yelled "get some [fricking] sleep and let me too!"
the notebook agrees that yes, the plan is solid, and hurray, the prototyping phase has arrived. the notebook barely disagrees. she's a good partner. all partners should be like that. this is not the caffeine talking, and i am doing okay.
finishing a project, however, does not give the same high that starting one does, and so, the projects see the light of the day and they keep seeing it.
the curtains never drop.
the melody never breaks.
the pain never stops.
the story never ends.
the projects never see their end-of-life.
ADHD empowers those marginalised otherwise. stop fighting your wiring, play it off as a strength, and you're a superhero. every day.
does your brain switch contexts faster than photons can travel? welcome to the club. maybe.
