that special day

my shoes have been with me through thick and thin: heavy dirt, heavy rain, heavy everything. when i had a soul, they didn't. now that they have two, i don't. the soul is the sole constant shared among all those who require it for their bare functioning.

when i walk, their taps reassure the earth that i am still here. out there. somewhere.

one day, i will wash my shoes. the day will come soon... enough. then the other shoes will feel less bathed.
